The community earned its name from the iron bloomery that produced iron for the area during the 1800s. Since that time, it is claimed to fame has been fiddling and producing several fiddlers that went on to various levels of fame. A few pottery collectors are also familiar with the area as it was the home of Iron Mountain Stoneworks from 1965 to 1992 making beautiful pieces of pottery in many different pattern types, some of which were rare and only created every other year. Today, the population of Laurel Bloomery is around 800.
